An online hub delivering first hand, practice-based information on the design and application of the ORSA
LONDON 4 November 2015 – Solvency II Wire today announces the launch of the ORSA Knowledge Centre – an online hub dedicated to delivering first hand, practice-based information on the design and application of the ORSA by industry and regulators. The ORSA (Own Risk and Solvency Assessment) is at the core of the governance requirement of Solvency II. Good governance has been identified as an essential component of sound business management and prudential regulation of the insurance industry.
Gideon Benari, editor, Solvency II Wire, said: “Many insurers and regulators across Europe are still struggling to make full sense of the ORSA and to develop an effective value-creating ORSA process. By creating a hub of knowledge of first hand practical information, the ORSA Knowledge Centre promotes better understanding of the challenges and of emerging solutions to implementing the ORSA.”
“There is an inherent paradox in the ORSA requirements that goes to the heart of principles based regulation. On the one hand firms are asked to produce their own assessment of their risk exposure, while on the other, regulators can, and do, take a view on that assessment, which may differ at times,” Mr Benari added.
The ORSA Knowledge Centre brings together a series of comment articles, interviews and analysis from industry practitioners and regulators. Contributions to the ORSA Knowledge Centre include: Romain Paserot, director of international affairs and head of Solvency II project, ACPR, on meeting all three assessments of the ORSA The hard edge of the ORSA, 26/10/15 Joanne Kellermann, executive director, DNB, on preventing the ORSA from becoming a tick-box exercise Lessons for delivering an effective ORSA, 05/07/14 Jan Parner, deputy director general, Danish FSA, on the linking of capital and planning Emerging ORSA patterns, 11/03/15 Clare Bousfield, chief financial officer, Aegon UK, on passing responsibility for the ORSA from the risk function to the business planning unit ORSA and the CFO – making it work for your business, 08/12/14 Alina vom Bruck, Gothaer Group, on the importance of early engagement with senior management ORSA and the Board – focus on the essentials, 04/10/14 ENDS
