The idea for creating a database of the Solvency II public disclosures, what would later become Solvency II Wire Data, began sometime in 2015 after Solvency II Wire produced market leading data anaysis on the take up of EIOPA’s Comply and Explain exercise.

Our biggest challenges were the lack of real Solvency II data to build the system with and, for us an independent online publication, to show we had the capabities to provide data on a commercial basis.

The solution was to create a database of the data that was available. At the time, and for a few years prior, several large insurers started publishing some basic Solvency II figures to prepare the market. These were used as the basis for building the prototype system.

In the summer of 2016 we began planning and design work on the database. These are some early sketches of the work.
